Days 17-18, January 15-16

Belgium! Emily and I left Paris and aimed to take the train we had purchased tickets for. Traffic was bad—worse than usual at the time of day we were leaving—and so we inevitably missed our train. No worries, though—our friend Manny took us over to the bus station and we caught a bus to Brussels. The ride was long but we were fine.

When we arrived in Brussels, we took the metro to the station nearest the home we were going to stay at. We then walked to the apartment (about 5-10 minutes away) and met our hosts, the Kay family. Irene and Dave Kay. Dave works with the U.S. Department of State and his wife, Irene, works as a substitute teacher at the international school here. They have an amazing apartment with lots of space to move around. And my bed is SO comfortable—like being at home :) They even have veggie food! On Sabbath I ate a fabulous breakfast of prosage patties, leftover lasagna, American cereal, banana, and juice! Oh, so good!

After breakfast, Emily and I went into town and walked around for a few hours, seeing what there is to see in Belgium. There aren't really many sites to see (no Eiffel Tower or Big Ben here), but we did see some beautiful squares, cathedrals, and old buildings. We also saw the city/country mascot: a peeing little boy :). Haha. There are a lot of amazing chocolate shops here! Sadly, I didn't buy any chocolate :(. I really should have, but I just thought I'd get it later on, and then it was too late. Maybe tomorrow at the train station I'll pick something up :)

It began to rain, so Emily and I headed back home and ate a great lentil soup dinner, took a nap, did some laundry, watched a movie, and now I've been working on Mr. Kay's computer, trying to get it virus-free. An eventful day :)

(I hope to have more pictures up sometime....we'll see)
